Having found some relatives on the 1901 census, I then went on to research their marriage. Having found two very good possibilities, how do I go about cross-referencing them when I don't have the womens' maiden names? Can this be done by the reference numbers?

Penny

Penny Report 6 Feb 2007 23:02

tell us who what and where, in actual terms. Really, the best way is to source a childs birth cert, with mothers maiden name on for confirmation

Hey Susan, I had a wee search for you and have come up with another possible marriage: Thyrza Elizabeth Abel married George Clarke Reg June quarter 1890 (2a 743) in Bromley. Checked on her a bit more and came up with her birth: Thirza Elizabeth Abel reg birth dec 1859 in Swaffam (4b 401). This ties in with the info Glitterbaby found on the 1891 census - note Swaffam is mentioned as her birth place and i noted that the residence was in the St Pancras parish of London, by sub district it mentioned Kentish town....Bromley where the above marriage took place i believe is in that area. I know the spelling of the first name is slightly different for the 2...but note this is the case on the 2 census's listed. The age also tallies - being in dec she would not quite be 42 by when the census was held. Hope this helps. Steve

That is irritating! 1901 gives all their birth places as NORWICH, so i didnt look anywhere else other than Norfolk! Well done Glitter baby- teach me to look further than me own nose1

thats sad 1901 census finds Stagg Abel in the Swaffham workhouse, married. he died , still in Swafham in 1910. again, it looks like he married in 1874 to Harriet Stagg Abel 1874 Oct-Nov-Dec Swaffham Norfolk Harriett Fendick Tibbett 1874 Oct-Nov-Dec Swaffham Norfolk They dont appear to have had any children though ( i love his name! Stagg!)
