Hi Susan, Did your grandmother have any siblings that may appear on the 1901 census?

Have you got her marriage certificate naming her father? This would make sure that you followed the correct line. This looks as if it might be her birth Births Mar 1904 SALISBURY Catherine Isabella Conway 11b 47[53] Gwyn

I have a greatgrand mother Catherine Isabella Salisbury born C1904 so obviously won't be in 1901 census, before i go buying a birth cert as I'm not quite sure is there any other way of finding her parents, I've got some leads but nothing seems solid? Struggling Sue

Ivy I'm a newbie as you can probaly tell how do you find just 11 Isabella Salisbury is this through Ancestry?

Ivy

Ivy Report 11 Feb 2007 21:07

- perhaps work on unusual names with the 1901 census? The marriage certificate for Catherine would probably give her father's name, so that you might be able to find him on the 1901 census, possibly already married... Also, if the Isabella name came from her father's side on the family, there may be a link to one of the 11 Isabella Salisburys on the 1901 census? Did you say you had some thoughts already on how to make the link to the right birth certificate?

Gwneth I can't find a marriage entry Iv'e been looking all week on this leg of the family, her husband was my g grandfather Albert Fredrick Shone dob 6 aug 1897 he is on the 1901 census his family originates from Sropshire.

The marriage? Q1 1925 Salisbury, Catherine I, Shone, Conway 11b 653 Shone, Albert F, Salisbury, Conway 11b 653 As explained, if you get the marriage certificate, it will give the fathers names. Birth cert will give mothers and fathers names.

The link I have is from my uncles tree on this site, he has her parents as a William Salisbury & a Louise Penelope Jones, both C1850 so it seems to me he has no pedigree and perhaps my Nan told him, I don'y really want to ask yet as she only died last month, just shows, you should ask as many questions as you can while people are still alive, she was the last of that generation, my dad is the next generation!!

- the 11 were on this site: www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk (free to search, but pay to view the handwritten entries) - depending on transcription, Ancestry may have more or less than this - I haven't got access to Ancestry just at the moment, perhaps someone else could check?

- there are only two Louises on 1901; but there are quite a few more Louisas. There are probably not many that are married to William, though - Ancestry would be easier to search for this couple - even if they are not Catherine's parents, they might well be linked. Must sign off - child not asleep yet. All the best

Susan, have you been checking the Complete images? You can view them on Ancestry free here http://www.ancestry*co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx Replace star with dot. You need to view the complete images quarter by quarter as the FreeBMD is not fully transcribed.

I'm guessing at this one. Name: William Salisbury Age in 1901: 57 Estimated birth year: abt 1844 Relation: Head Spouse's name: Louisa Gender: Male Where born: Llanasa, Flintshire, Wales Civil parish: Colwyn Bay Ecclesiastical parish: Colwyn Bay Town: Colwyn Bay County/Island: Denbighshire Country: Wales Street address: View image Condition as to marriage: View image Education: View image Employment status: View image Occupation: View image Registration district: Conway Sub-registration district: Creuddyn ED, institution, or vessel: 12 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 203 Household Members: Name Age John Salisbury 31 Son John D Salisbury 2 Grandson Louisa Salisbury 51 Maude J Salisbury 6 Grandaughter Robert Salisbury 26 Son William Salisbury 57 Second thoughts, they may be too old as grandchildren with them. BUT you did reckon both born c1850

KeithInFujairah Report 11 Feb 2007 21:46

Which cert depends on what you want, if you want to follow both lines, marriage cert will give both Fathers. If just to follow Catherine's the birth cert will confirm both parents. Being as Catherines birth was registered in Conway district, the 1901 census seems like a good bet, but look a bit old to be having children in 1904, could she be either John or Roberts daughter?

Susie Floosie

Susie Floosie Report 11 Feb 2007 21:46

Keith That's what I was saying about a tentative link, no pedigree, there are quite a few but just can't be sure, I suppose I will have to get certificates to be certain, which would be best birth or marriage?
