I have 51 pages of hot matches - most have no connection to me - maybe the name is the same but the place of birth is wrong - any idea how I can delete these 'near misses' without trawling through them all? I have smith as one of the surnames so its a real pain. Anyone else have this problem - and solved it? thanks |

Sorry - if you want to delete them, you have to go through them one at a time, or just completely ignore them in the first place. There really should be a better way of deleting them though. I'm sure GR could organise it if they wanted to. Kath. x |

You cannot totally delete but you can move them to 'ignored' and if you resist the urge to click 'view ignored hot matches' then you need never see them again. Go to your last page of hot matches, tick all the boxes,of those you do not want, then click save. Keep doing it to the next last page until they are all gone. |

You don't have to go into each one, unless you want to check just in case there is one you are interested, you can do it a page at t time. Select a page, and then tick the box on the right. When you have gone right down the page click save. They will then be hidden from view. |

jim in sotons right this is only way i found to take them off screen .but i dont knowe what other feel but deleting anything one does not want is a hassle on this site , like contact for instance i might want to delete someone on or a couple of names on last page but one can only do it one at a time and each time it throws you back to first page!! or you may of entered some name on your tree and found later its wrong and want it out but the system wont let you delete it. |

Re: hot matches, I have found matches that are possible, but need more info so try to make contact and very rarely, get a response, does this mean that the people concerned are just not interested, rude or don't feel that they are a connection. It would be nice just to have a quick response even if it's NO!!! |

What I find as a real pain with hot matches is that they disappear when I upload a gedcom file and then I have to start all over again sifting through the ones which aren't a match. Now that is a real pain !! I prefer to use FTM and then upload to here as and when necessary. |

Hi Julia, For future reference: I have Jones in my tree, to prevent floods of irrelevant Hot Matches coming in I have put Jones(q) as the surname of all these ancestors. When the batch of Hot Matches comes in, every fortnight, I simply do my own name search of my Jones's and tick the 'names entered in the last 2 weeks' box. That way I don't miss out on any potential good matches and I don't get bogged down in irrelevant Jones's. |

I have found best way to deal with hot matches is to deal with them each time they are renewed.............I click on name and if its not mine I press disgard match then it goes and it doesnt ever reappear I message any possibles and most people reply sometimes takes awhile cos we all have holidays etc......... usually takes me 10 minutes at most sandie |

perhaps the gr (people who can) could set up a device whereby you could stop hot matches on a particular name. i have the names Brown and Jones in my tree but they are not lines I want to follow but I get hundreds of matches for them it would be good if I could put a message on my tree saying only matches for the following surnames are required. |
