Duncan, No worries. I've looked at so many death certificates (hundreds of them) that if I didn't know the answer to this question, I would be the one to feel silly! ;-) Cheers, Horatia

Thanks Horatia, now I know it says exhaustion I can see it does, if you know what I mean. Do you know something, I feel really stupid now! Duncan

Duncan, It's definitely Exhaustion. This description was referring to the mode of death. You'll find the term Exhaustion listed on here: http://www.paul_smith.doctors.org.uk/ArchaicMedicalTerms.htm Consumption is another word for Phthisis Pulmonalis. It wasn't written on the death certificate. Cheers, Horatia

Thanks Duncan, I am really grateful for the help this was a hard one to try and understand as the writing as nice as it looked was just to hard for me to understand ...

That's brilliant Horatia - I can stop trying to figure it out now!! Kath. x

It's Phthisis Pulmonalis (3 years) and Exhaustion. A common cause of death back then sadly. :-( Phthisis is another word for TB or Consumption - this is often seen on death certificates. Cheers, Horatia

Without the kind people on this site, i think i might have gone totally mad as there have been times i have really struggled trying to find information, I started in November as a project for my daughters homework then caught the bug lol. I hope soon that i will be able to offer the same help as i have recieved on here to others.

Hi Doreen Thanks for your time in looking, please dont stay up though as a few people have had a look and he died of TB. I am glad that i now know but thinking that he suffered for 3 years has given me horrible thoughts plus the fact that he left 2 children behind under the age of 5 years . Thanks again

Tara, I can read bits of it, I hope not to offend anybody but I'm sure the bottom word starts with Erection, could this be any sort of STD by any chance? Afraid I can't read enough of it to answer properly. Duncan

Have also replied by email. I too came up with TB. The nearest to the second word I came up with was Pneumonalis - although I don't think this is quite right. Couldn't read the line after the words '3 years'. Kath. x
