Janet 693215 Report 29 Mar 2007 15:04

I had a message from a non paying member half an hour ago. I know she hasn't paid, I set her account up for her last week.

Now I'm totally confused - the T&Cs don't mention anything about replying any more but in the light of Gillian's answer I just messaged a friend with a non paying (Standard) account and she could reply to me! (I wasn't an existing contact either as she had never been contacted by anyone before) I'm off to lie down in darkened room now.

Judith No need to apologise - why should you know GR changed the T and C's? Not many of us make them bed time reading, lol. So - there is the answer. Lapsed members cannot reply to your messages. OC

OC and Peter, mea culpa! I knew non paying members used to be able to reply and didn't check the current terms and conditions - you are right they don't seem to be able now. Hardly seems worth our being able to send them messages if they can't reply! Or at least it would be useful to have an indication against their name as to whether they are paid members - then we would be able to include our own email address in messages to those who can't reply via GR. Oh no, silly me - that would take business away from GR

I don't think Standard Members can respond any more either. The used to be able to but I believe it was withdrawn last year.

I am not so sure you CAN reply to a message if you are not a paying member.... I had a message from FR from someone. When I tries to reply it said I needed to be a paying member. Is it the same on GR? OC

If you can reply to a query without being a paying member, what are the benefits of paying then?

Yummy-Mummy Report 28 Mar 2007 20:15

not many ppl reply to them

Judith

Judith Report 28 Mar 2007 20:09

Even if they are not paying members they are still able to respond to your message - but I suppose those who are not paying members may be less obsessed than the rest of us :-) Could also have changed their email address and not told GR in which case they won't know about messages unless they log in.

- Computer crashed; - gone on holiday; - away on business; - messages not working and gave up in disgust (as I did this morning!); - simply doesn't connect to the internet 24/7; - forgets to check emails; - wife's just had a baby; - changed their email address; - etc... GR people are human and I'm afraid like you they all have their little crises. You just have to be patient, I'm afraid

What are the reasons for not getting a reply to a query? Does it mean the person concerned is not a paying member? I spent ages last week going through my names and sending out queries to possible matches. A couple of them looked really promising. To my disappointment only a few have replied so far. [I have noticed an interesting trend, the quickest replies come from people who are definitely NOT connected!]
