ls there anyone out there who can find my gran Mary Elizabeth Cowdell born 1894 Birstall. West Yorkshire. All l know of her from 1920 is she married Edward Patchett born 1899 Eccleshill. West Yorkshire at Bradford register office 1920 l have the marriage certificate. My gran had given birth to my mum in 1914 while living at home with her mum and older half sister. My mum stayed with them and moved to Cornwall with them as a teenager. l have been told by a member of the Patchett family in Australia that Edward appeared at a family funeral in 1960s in Bradford. l have trawled ancestry full for deaths and marriages to no avail l have had look ups done for emigration too but nothing. Please can anyone find my gran There is a death for a Mary E Patchett born 1895 but it isn't her Hopefully Pam |

Pam - Im a bit confused about what you actually want to find - you talk about the hubby turning up at a funeral in the 60's- are you looking for living rellies or are you tracing your nans ancestry? You have her marriage cert so you will have her fathers name and occupation, so you need to find her on the 1901 census and then move backwards. You havent given us all the details you have - what were her parents names, her siblings names etc? |

Dear Diane. Scarlet ribbons and Heather l'm so sorry l had to dash out Sorry too l didn't make it clearer. ok here goes l have all my grans family history back to 1797 lt is my gran herself l am looking for information on after her marriage. She vanished after the marriage as did Edward 1 elderly patchett relative says they moved to Lancashire some time after marrying You are right my grans parents are Carrie and Levi her half sister was also named Mary but with a middle name of Eliza My mum was taken to live in Cornwall with her gran (carrie) and aunt (mary eliza) and never saw her mum Mary Elizabeth again. l hope l haven't made this more confusing Kind regards Pam |

I think Edward may be the key here. As he was thought to be at a family funeral in the 1960s, it is probable that he ( and his wife ?) still lived in UK. If we look for his death after that date, it may lead us to Mary Elizabeth as you will at least have a possible area and his home address could be checked in electoral rolls to see if she is there, ...or when she 'disappeared' from being there....She may even be the informant on his death certificate. On Ancestry there is this death registration, where the deceased has a birthdate close to the Edward in your tree. Name: Edward Patchett Birth Date: 8 Mar 1898 Death Registration Month/Year: Sep 1985 Age at death (estimated): 87 Registration district: Trafford Inferred County: Cheshire Volume: 39 Page: 1778 Gwyn |

Pam That may...or may not be the correct Edward. In order to search electoral rolls, you need an address, ( they are listed by street rather than by individuals) so you need to buy Edward's death certificate, if you think it might be the right one. The lists are usually only available at archives, or sometimes main libraries, in the area local to the address. Gwyn |

There's no birth that matches this death so the informant might have got the year of birth wrong. Name: Edward Patchett Birth Date: 8 Mar 1898 Do you have a date of birth for your Edward? Is this his birth? Births Jun 1899 Patchett Edward N. Bierly 9b 213 Rose |

Hi Rose Sorry l haven't replied before now Yes that is Edwards birth in N.Bierley. l do think the death is his l have trawled ancestry complete for any children but only found 1 other daughter for Mary (Rita) who was born and died the quarter before they married. l will send for the death certificate l have nothing to lose and everything to gain if it is him, so well worth a shot. Thanks for your help Kind regards Pam |
