Her adoptive mum is from Scotland so perhaps that's where the Scottish connection comes in. The family runs a fish shop and coffee house. Rose

A rough guess is that she was married age 21 (ish), so she should have been on the 1901 & 1891 censuses. If she's a little older, she have been on the 1881 census. I'd start by looking for her in the 1891 census - try ancestry.co.uk. With any luck, she'll be at home with her parents. Ages are more likely to be correct, the younger the child - in my experience. Once you've got an age and a place of birth from the census, you can start looking for the certificate. For England and Wales: You can do this through FreeBMD & ancestry.co.uk with search facilities or simply trawl through quarter by quarter on ancestry or findmypast.com. Once you have the reference, you can then order the certificate. PS these are the correct websires for England/Wales certificates. Hopefully someone will fill you in on the Scotland ones.

You would have to apply in whichever country she was actually born. You need firstly to find out the exact details of where and when. Where did the marriage take place? What was her father's occupation? Have you looked for the lady on 1901 census? Her birthplace and year of birth will be recorded on that. Reg
