Angela Sorry to be picky, but this is really intriguing me - you say he ran away TO Barnardoes? That was a really unusual thing to do if he was 12, most lads of that age would have got a job. That doesnt help you find him of course, but I just wonder if you have been told the right story? OC |

It has been my experience that Barnardos is an extremely caring and courteous organisation. They have been much maligned for some mistakes of the past (it is easy in hindsight to condemn the past) but they have done and continue to do some sterling work in the finding of families of past Children in their care. If they can help they will. Perhaps you could contact them directly and explain your disappointment to see if they can tell you more. They are not the sort of organisation that takes your money and gives nothing in return. At the end of the day they can only tell you what the have in their records. |

Angela if you send for his birth certificate it will give you his parents names (if you dont already know them) you can then find the family on the 1901 census & hopefully the names of any other children they had. Births Mar 1902 (>99%) CURTIS Frederick Joseph A Camberwell 1d 811 Georgina. |

this has really upset me i sent £25 to barnardos in the hope they would find some details on my grandfather i know its not always possible to find the info. the thing is my grandfather ran away to banardos when he was only about 12 he told my father all about it but what he didnt say was that he probably used a false name i was really hopeing for pictures and info as that is what they offer with the package. has anyone got any ideas about this one or should i lay it to rest .He died 30 years ago. |
