Hello Helen The US Social Security Death Index is free to search on the Family Search website, but I can't find your chap in it. It's also on Ancestry (not free!), and I searched there too in case there are missing entries on Family Search, but he's still not listed. The Michigan Death Indexes on Ancestry are of no help as they only begin in 1971; and the newspaper obits for Michigan are only online and indexed from 2003 onwards. Regards, Brenda |

Thanks for that Jim, as per my original posting I truly believe that George died between 1920-1930 as he was not living with the family in 1930. Would you happen to know if there is a death index for USA? Bye Helen |

Hi Brenda, My grandfather's brother, George Thomas Southworth, born in England in 1896, emigrated to Detroit and died there, I think in 1931, but it might have been 1930. I'm not sure what year he went to live there. I think I once saw a memorium card with St Gregory's Church mentioned on it, but don't know where the card is. Obviously he must have had some sort of employment whilst he was living there. If you could check the 1930 census to see if he was still alive and what his job was, I'd be very, very grateful. We know so little about him or why he went there. All the older members of my family have now passed away. Kind regards Amanda |

Helen On the 1930 US Census there's a George Donaldson, born Scotland abt 1843, in Jefferson Ohio. There are loads of people on the page, but Ancestry is freaking my browser out and I can't view the image to see what it is. It might be a hospital or a nursing home. He's listed as 87. Brenda |

Would appreciate any help or suggestions as to where I may be able to search for the death records of my g-g-grandfather George DONALDSON. On 1920 USA census he was residing with his daughter, & son in law in Detroit Ward 10, Wayne, Michigan. He was aged 75years born in Edinburgh, Scotland 1845-1849 (dob differs slightly). By 1930 he is no longer living with the family. I am therefore assuming that he passed away between 1920 and 1930. Many thanks Helen Australia |
