I logged on today and saw my tree had been updated again...WOOHOO, perhaps my photo bug had been dealt with. No such luck! I don't see how these updates are really an improvement as they seem to be implemented before they are fully tested for bugs. I have reported so many glitches lately, all as a direct result of tree updates. Here is a copy of latest correspondence:- Hi, thanks for the email, but I'm still unable to add pics. I have had a fair few problems with GR of recent. 1) Marriage bug, when I was unable to change a marriage date. Reported. 2) Census view, when I was unable to view a census I used 5 credits on. Reported. 3) Unable to upload photos. Reported. 4) Circa dates appearing where I had full dates. Reporting this now. As adding photos is one of the perks I am paying for with a full membership, will my membership have this lost time of 'full membership status' replaced? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: 'Genes Support Team' <[email protected]> To: <removed to protect my privacy> Subject: RE: Feedback Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2007 11:42:33 +0100 >Thanks for reporting this problem. > >I have passed this on to our technical team to have a look at. > >Please bear with us while we work to resolve this. > >Best regards, > >Alex S >The Genes Support Team > >=============================== > >Message >============ >Subject : Feedback >I can't add photos, it tells me I need to be a full member. I am a full member til 07 sep 07. I have added pics before. |

What was wrong with the 'Tree Changed Again' thread? You made your point on that. We will just have to be patient till things get sorted. |

Peter I made a new thread as often people do not search threads, and once it has gone past the 1st page no one looks much, hence a new photo thread added today, exactly the same as my initial one. A new thread announcing titanic searches free, yet a new thread posted only yesterday said exactly the same thing. You can be patient all you like....I am tired of getting non stop glitches, I don't know perhaps you work for GR so feel you have to defend them. This thread was slightly different anyway from the tree changed thread. My issues were being aimed at GR. I undesrtand that they are in competition with Ancestry so are desperately adding newer things to be better, but to add things that causes people more problems than help, is not a good change. Especially when they take so long to correct the bugs. *update* Perhaps GR could offer compensation? As in; 'We have denied you the full membership perks for 2 weeks, therefore we will add 2 weeks to your full membership for free'. |

Tina, Apologies, my response did come across a little short. I do realise that the glitches are frustrating but most are just annoying rather than life threatening, so I don't get too wound up about it. Apart from the odd tete a tete on the message boards, my main reason for being here is to contact others who are researching the same lines as I am. I don't worry to much that the tree program hiccups now and again. My real tree is at home on FTM, but I also have information on Ancestry and Rootsweb, but rarely have as many contacts from there as I do from GR. Ancestry is a different product altogether and is a much bigger organisation that GR is. I suspect that GR's technical team runs to about ten people whereas Ancestry's is several hundreds. Oh, and by the way, I don't work for GR.....! P xx |

Glad to see I am not the only person cheesed off with the G.R. people. I know that when new upgardes are installed on any system there can be annoying little glitches that need to be sorted out but lately its getting beyond a joke. But worst of all after a recent upgarde G.R. lost almost half of my tree and they still can'y retrieve it . As you can apprecaite I am absolutely hopping mad. They don't apologise. They show no signs of regret and don't seem to have the expertise to retrieve their error. I have written a real stinker to their Head Office. I have lost about 900 plus names and about 4 years hard work. Has anyone else had this sort of disaster?. I would love to know. |

I agree with you Peter. I am just glad that GR are putting in some effort to improve this site. Yes there are problems, but from what I've experienced first hand they are very minor and what I would consider niggles. I guess it comes down to how you use this site. For instance, I would never use this tree as my master or one and only copy of all my research. For what its worth I think the tree software has moved on leaps and bounds in the last 12 months. Well done GR - lets have some more :) Oh and I dont work for GR either .... Paul |

Er Paul did you read the message before yours? I don't think Melvyn finds 4 years lost a 'niggle'. Thing is many use GR as the main tree. They began here so stay etc. Personally I write everything down in hard copy, one day I hope to illustrate my tree. So basically it is not Melvyns fault for trusting GR. Most here are probably loyal to GR, GR just just needs to show some loyalty back to it's customers, and not fob off it's paying customers with crap. Honesty with people tends to work. For Peter...kinda know you don't work for GR lol, was just being the devils advocate....I pay my milk bills btw. |
