this is my 3rd time of trying to find out whatever happened to my g grandfather william edward oakes.......he was born in 1877 in garston ,liverpool......he married sophia sacht (schacht)in liverpool ,and they had 9 children.....the 1st born was daniel....b 1899 ...he was my grandfather......william edward oakes seems to dissapear around the time of the 1st ww......can`t find nothing in military records.....i know 1 son, evan datlef oakes was born in 1912,and winnifred oakes was the last of the 9,so i think she was born abt 1913/14..........can anyone give me any tips on williams death.......i`ve tried igi,but only have him as a 4yr old in 1881 census.......if anyone can find him on 1901 census (10 banks rd,garston was the family home,..obviously ,william would have moved out ,but still in garston)) i may be able to find out his occupation....my dad,who has passed away, told me he knew nothing of his grandfather, but thought he went away to sea.....any tips/help/ would be appreciated,,,,,i really would like to make some progress today on william edward oakes if possible.......thanks......allan

the last child being born 1913/14 suggests he was lost in WW1. There are 20 William Oakes on the CWCG site. perhaps you can identify with one of them. Shirley

Hi Allan You say that you can't find him but have you actually trawled all the deaths from 9 months before the birth of the last child onwards? Chrissie
