Unless I am mistaken, for security reasons if you want to order a certificate from the GRO for someone born within the last 50 years, you need to provide the following information, Surname at birth Forename(s) Date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy) Place of birth Father's surname Father's forename(s) Mother's maiden surname Mother's forename(s)

You may have to wait a couple of years. A friend tried to order a birth certificate and was told there was a 50 years closure. I don't think there is a hard and fast rule for this but that was her experience, when she ordered a couple of years ago. We are now past the 50 years mark and she has since re ordered and received the certificate. Gwyn

Shirley do you have the GRO reference number? If you dont then send me the name of the person whose BC you want in a personal message and I will find the reference number & the mothers maiden name for you. Georgina.

Hi, can anyone tell me. Can I order a b/c (year 1959) if I don't know the father's name or mother's christian name? I went onto the GRO site, added all info needed, but in the box required for father's names I typed in Unknown and for mother's christian name, I typed unknown, but typed in the surname as I know that. It seemed to accept what I had typed in as it went onto to 'proceed with payment'. Am I right in saying this is okay and the certificate will be produced regardless of not having all info?? Thanks Guys. ______________________________________________________ UPDATE: Hi all, I have ordered the certificate. I had the vol/page number etc, just not mother's christian name/father's name. It's gone through ok. Don't know about this 50 year rule, as I have ordered others where the birth took place fairly recently! Thank you for all your offers of help anyway! Shirley-ann Shirley-ann
