I think the one in 1821 is mine as that is the one with the DOB closest to the census records and his death in 1880 in Sheffield is down as DOb 1823. I think the one in 1817 died as an infant and then mine was born and took the name Job I will have to search for a death of the 1817 to be certain But got to sleep now as I'm worn out xx

Do you think the Job in 1817 is the first Job who died??

Hi I'm here- sorry not been able to get on until now I think the reason behind it all may be that they had a son called Job who died and then had my gx2 grandad later. Have you seen the one in 1814 or was it 1817 - let me go and look, sorry!!

If it is an extracted parish register entry then it is probably correct, although you do need to check to be certain the one didnt die, and your man is a later son whose baptism hasn't yet been transcribed. Census entries are whatever people told the enumerator and they may not have known themselves when they (or their husband) was born - people were not age conscious as we are now. And if a child answered the door to the enumerator, they may just have made a wild guess. A parish register entry is far more likely to be correct than a census return. But you do need to check the original, to be sure. UPDATE - I cannot find an entry for 1814 either... OC

Hi Reg and Peter On IGI it is showing as source information from a Batch On Ancestry I'm looking at census records from 1841 up to 1871 in Halifax and Sheffield and his death record in 1880 in Sheffield Maddie

In order to untangle this we probably need to be a bit more precise as to what you are looking at. When you say ''on Ancestry'', what exactly are you looking at? Similarly for the IGI, what is the record type? is is member submission or a parish register extract?

Is the IGI an 'extracted' record? Or member submitted? Reg

Job Saville born Halifax 1823 My 2x great grandad is down on the census records as born either 1821 ( this date once) and the others are 1823, his death on Ancestry is also showing DOB 1823. But when I look on IGI his DOB is 1814, and his baptism is 1814, his parents are with him on IGI so I know I have the right one. But what is right?? The entry on IGI has really thrown me mainly because his brothers details also show a different DOB with what the census records show Help and advice please Maddie
