Hi Hazel, If it was a girl, yes they could. As late as 1926, a girl could get married at the age of 12 and a boy at 14, but consent from the parents was required up until the age of 21 for both. Chris |

Baptised in 1766, not necessarily at birth! Although I do have a 13 year old (male) marrying in the early 1700s - his birth date is given alongside his baptism. He married a 13 year old girl, who produced a child about a month later! There is nothing new under the sun, I find. OC |

On Familysearch there's a marriage of James Pope & Pearson Wright, Sep. 1779, Northaw, Herts. and a christening of Pearson Wright, 25 Sep. 1757, Stevenage, Herts. If she's the same one she would have been 22 at marriage. Margaret |
