His records wouldn't be online, as it's only the older soldiers who are indexed. Not sure what you asked them to look at??? It would mean a visit to Kew to look at the records, or employing someone to look at them. I can tell you about someone. Send me a pm if you want to go down this route. |

No I didnt pay them. I searched all the online resources for documents that I thought he would be mentioned in and asked them for an estimate for copies. They got back to me to say that they cannot find him (in the documents I asked them to search). The only information I have for him is that he was in the Royal Irish Fusiliers in May 1891 (from his marriage certificate) and then the Royal Scottish Fusiliers in November 1891 (from his daughters birth certificate). I dont know when or where he was born or when he died. |

Did you pay the National Archives? Where did they search? Do you have dates for his service? |

Has anyone got any tips re;- getting military records for old soldiers? My husbands g g grandad was a soldier in the 1880's. Have searched the National Archive website and requested info from them but they have not been able to find anything. I know he was in the Royal Irish Fusiliers and the Royal Scottish Fusiliers but I dont have his number. I'm at a dead end with his family and hoped that his military record would give me some more clues. Ned |
