You don't need permission from anyone to get a copy of someones will, once they have been proved they become public documents. It will cost £5 - if you know the date of death, they will search for five years after this. http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1226.htm#addresses Sam x

If i could find out who was living at that address at that time it might tell me more.

Linda Once a Will has gone to probate, it is public property and anyone can apply for a copy. Or, you could email the Records Office in the area and ask them to tell you who was on the Electoral Roll at that address in that year - there will be a small charge, I expect. But personally, I would go for the Will! OC

Hi, no I think there would be electoral registers for 1949 - I think it was just the war years that didnt have them. I had a similar search for the late 40s and I contact the local records office and asked for a look up by email and they sent me the names of the people at the same addy as my rellie virtually by return and with no charge. Hi i have had my g/grandads death cert come today and the person that registered his death has left me no futher forward.My g/grandfather left his wife and young children in 1901 and was living with his parents aged 30 in the 1901 cencus.We know he left my g/grandmother for a woman in a local pub,apparentley a bar maid.My mother knows he moved to Leicester with this women, but we dont know what her name was.I was told through family that contacted through this site from the states that he knows he had at least one child with this women,but dont know if the child would have been named after his father because they would have been unable to marry.I know that when he died he had left a sum of money for my grandad,whom hadnt had anything to do with him for years.My g/grandads name was Thomas Elsworth born 1871 and died in 1949,born in Ripon ,Yorkshire,Married and lived in Nuneaton,Warwickshire up untill at least 1901,then moved to Leicester.The address i have in Leicester is 17 Minehead Street and the person that registered the death was M Moore at the same address.Is there any way i could find any more information about this person and who it was,male or female i dont know.Is there any electoral registers in that time that i coul view to find out any thing,It would be invaluable.Thanks for reading this because i know its a long one.
