Can anybody tell me the answer to this? You trace back to a couple then there is no marriage record. So how do you then find and confirm their parents? Of course you can find similar on the census records, I want concrete proof, not guess work. Is this possible? Am I mising something? Thanks Jacky |

You'd need to give an idea of when to enable people to offer constructive advice......... Reg |

Sorry, had a reply from Reg and clicked on his name to reply instead of reply to thread. As I explained, 1880s-1890s period, two people move in as man and wife one I can trace the other just appeared without a marriage certificate to give me his fathers name I wonder if there is any other way to research back from him? Told Reg I am enclosed within a huge pile of paper grows daily but scared to throw any away, just in case. Suffering at the moment from a severe case of genealogy Is there a cure? husband says the time I have spent on this should be back to william the conqueror by now. Jackyx |

Geri, Agree It is fun but also so frustrating, It seams the more I find out only confirms how very little I know. I have had much more luck with other peoples trees than our own. When I first started I was quite confident now I keep every scrap of paper because I know in the past I have thrown away things I should have kept. I always thought the victorians very moral and straight laced, not so. The census records are fantastic just wish there were more of them to view, I can understand the privacy side because they hold so many family secrects. So will keep on collecting the paper, paying the £7 s and will just have to put up with the names that keep going round my head. I guess I am hooked. Jacky |

Jacky, Frustrating but does give a lot of pleasure when you find an answer to a question. My grandmothers birth cert dated Oct 1900 suggests her parents were married at the time and it looks that way on the 1901 census. My great grandparents actually married in 1914. Good luck. Maureen |
