My great grandfather was shown in hospital at one of the census times, but had been included at home as well. I imagine that his wife thought he might not get counted in hospital. |

Hi Yummy Mummy Thanks for that, I really felt the need to hear that others had came across the same thing. What I forgot to mention is James Plumley was from Woodgreen near Fordingbridge, one census said Woodgreen the other Fordingbridge. I am in the process of tiding up my 'PC' tree and adding all missing info so it is important I get all correct. Thanks again Best wishes Maria |

Yes, I have several examples of it. Mostly they are entered at home by their family and then also where they 'really' were on census night. Also I have an example of a whole family entered twice - they were on the corner where two different ennumerators areas joined. anne |

hi, yes it is. i have a child listed both at home with parents and at the grandparents house. i believe he was staying with grandparents but parents listed him as well 'just so that he was listed'. |

I seem to have a couple entered in the 1851 census in two different parts of Hampshire. In one address I have my 4 x great grand parents James and Lucy Plumley living in Otterbourne Hants with grandaughter Mary Jane Strudwick ( spelt Stredwick) In the other I have James Plumley living with wife 'Louisa' and daughter Mary Ann Strudwick ( Daughter of James and wife Lucy in Otterbourne census sheet and Mother to Mary Jane Strudwick) Living in Winchester street St Marys Southampton. Also grandaughter Emily Strudwick. Now I know Mary Ann Strudwick ( nee Plumley is the mother of both Children in both Census sheets. And is the daughter of James and Lucy in the first. So either James had two wifes and the daughter of the first was Okay with that, or she was staying at thier house and they were away at the other address and she added them to the census. And somehow Lucy's name was put down as 'Louisa'. James Plumley was a blacksmith Journeyman. More likey the second to me as James and Lucy in the Otterbourne census was living at the second census address in Winchester street in further census years. Have I confused everybody yet ????? I took me a while to find out their daugther was married to a Strudwick which has sort of left me with the conclusion there was a census error. I am just looking for some confirmation that I am right in thinking it is a census error before I add it to my tree. Sorry if I have given anyone a headache. Best wishes Maria |
