I seem to do OK looking up ancestors on the various census' but how do I find information before that? I know there are parish records but what if you don't know which parish to look in? Any help or useful advice would be gratefully received! |

hi, familyseach*org (change * for .) do have some records going back many years BUT they do need to be checked and verified and they are not always accurate. however they do give you a starting block to work from. amy |

Sometimes (in fact, a lot of the time) when you look on the census images, two parishes will be mentioned. One is the civil parish, the other is the ecclesiastical parish - which I think is referring to the nearest church in the locality. It's not foolproof - a lot of my Catholic ones have the parish given as the nearest Church of England one (I think C of E ranked higher in importance than Catholic) but it gives you an idea. |

If you give us one or two ancestors you wish to trace, perhaps we can show you using them as examples. I'd be happy to look for you. |
