IGI - can I trust it? How do I verify what it says

I know that Susannah Harrison is one of my ancestors (born abt 1784, Wilksby, Lincs). When I then search for her on the IGI I get a Susannah Harrison, christened 17 Oct 1784, Wilksby, LIncs. Parents are John & Elizabeth. This seems as though it must be her, but do I trust what I see or can I confirm this info elsewhere?

You really need to go to the Lincolnshire Record Office and view the record for yourself to ensure no errors. While you are there you could also look for other evidence. Will are an invaluable resource which provide reliable information if you are lucky enough to find your ancestor. http://www(.)genuki(.)org(.)uk/big/eng/LIN/probate.html#Wills This section from Genuki on Lincolnshire might be helpful too.

The National Archives online section holds the wills for several Harrisons from Lincolnshire. You could make a note of them for future reference in case you find a link: http://www(.)nationalarchives(.)gov(.)uk/documentsonline/search-results.asp?searchType=browserefine&mediaarray=*&first_date=&last_date=&CatID=6&pageCount=4&query=last%5Fname%3Dharrison%7Cplace%3Dlincolnshire&queryType=1&pageNumber=1&sortSpec=score+desc

If you are near a LDS family history centre you could order in the films for the registers. Checking their catalogue it looks as if there are two films for Wilksby, Lincs. Film 1. Baptisms, 1562-1763, marriages, 1562-1739, burials, 1562-1747, 1763; Baptisms, 1767-1812; Burials, 1767-1979; Marriages, 1798-1835, 1756-1794. Film 2. Baptisms, 1813-1994. From memory they charge about £4 per film and will keep them for a month. Chris
