FTM will automatically save a backup file. Just check File, Preferences, General and ensure that the box ''Automatically Back up Family File'' is checked. You can also copy your data to an external flash drrve periodically so you have a backup if your computer crashes or the hard drive fails.

These errors will refer to notes or sources. The actual people and dates etc. data itself will be okay. If you get a Date line error it's probably because you have entered somehting which is not standard gedcom, for example if you put Circa, or a ? in a date FTM will ignore it during import. The best way to back it up is to use .FTW format not gedcom. Ron www*genealogyprinters*com

Just trying to back up my family tree in FTM, in order to email it to myself just in case. Exported the gedcom file, but when I tried opening it in FTM, i get a message saying there were 75 errors, I copied and pasted: They all say the same thing but with a different number: eg Line 3378 : Tag: STAT, subordinated to wrong item, line ignored. I've a feeling this means some of my info will be mixed up in the new back up file, as I've thought that has happened before. Have I done something wrong when I backed up ?
