What can I say but thank you once again. Rose, Lisa said you were a whiz at researching! What you found was great. I had thought that Vivian was a strange second name for John! LOL henrietta was married very young and Mabel arrived rather soon after!! Lisa, thanks for the Bettison info. I think I have found the connection. Minnie Rebecca Grose (1859) married William Bettison in 1877. I cannot find then on the census so I reckon they also popped across to the promised land as well. Margaret, that death you found seems a likely bet to clear the way for Henrietta to meet and see off another young man. She was NOT safe to be married to!. Poor old William Hoyte was only 27 when he popped his clogs! I cant tell you how grateful I am to you all. Gerry :-))

Was looking for the death of Henrietta's first husband, Thomas Vivian, and think I found him March quarter 1876, Kingsbridge, Devon, age 25. Curiously there's 2 other Vivians, same quarter, same place, James Vivian age 70 and John Vivian age 69.

Hi all Thanks to Lisa's help i can confirm Henrietta was a Grose and i have found her and her family in the 1861 English Census. The 1900 and 1885 American census suggests that Henrietta Grose and Captain William Hoyte married befor emigrating as some of their children are shown as being born in England. However I still cannot find a marriage for them. Good progress so far though and thank you all for your help to date. Gerry :-))

Gerry, I can't find William or Henrietta on either the 1880 US census or the 1881 British one, so looks like they emigrated between the two. Also can't find a marriage for them. Did they emigrate together before they were married? Still lots of questions to be answered. Margaret

Hi. William Hoyte (Hoite,Hoyt) b1856 in Newlyn East, Cornwall to George and Elizabeth. In 1869, when he was 13 he was awarded a book from his Sunday School in Illogan in Cornwall. I have the book in front of me. In 1871 census he was still in Illogan as a Tin Mine Labourer, then he disappears However, I have a letter from Henrietta Hoit in America talking about the death of her husband Captain William Hoyte (b1856) who died in Dec 1883 in Alma, USA after a long illness. My gut tells me this my William from Illogan. Can anyone tell me please if they have any info or access to records which showed William Hoyte emigrated to America and married a Henrietta? Gerry :-))
