Just found my Great Great Grandad never married by GG Grandma. She had three children by her husband and then four more. Should I put her on my family tree with her married name or as she had put on all the census my Great Great Grandad's name. Or would it just be personal preference? Linda |

You should always enter women by their maiden name, never their married name. Sam x |

Hi Sam, So even though she was Mary Angliss when she lived with GGGrandfather I should still put her down as Mary Ann Evans? Linda |

Linda I would put the name she was known by when living with your grand father. Normally you would put the spouses maiden name but if she had been married before then you would put the name she was know as at the time - hope that makes sense |

Hi, I would put her on with her maiden name but then add the first spouse and their children and then add her partner and their children. I hope that makes sense. Kind Regards Jane |

Hi Jane, Thanks, It is complicated as on all the childrens birth certs. it says Mother.. Mary Ann Glasspool formerly Angliss but when I was lucky enought to get my GGGrandfathers' will it said that he left everything to Mary Ann Angliss. That's the first time I realized they had not married. On the first three children certs. it says Mary Ann Angliss formerly Evans Linda |
