How long would it have taken for a divorce to come through say from 1902 to 1910? also how often did women not bother to remarry but use thier new partners name instead during the same time? Luv Angie xxx |

Divorce was still expensive, and still seen as socially messy and disgraceful, to be avoided by all 'respectable' people (who just committed bigamy instead, lol). Divorce laws were very different then - you had to have a specific grievance against your spouse, and you could NOT just agree to get a divorce - this was illegal. I am not aware of any specific time limits to divorce back then, in terms of how long you had to wait after marriage, because the divorceable 'fault' occurred whenever it occurred, and that was good enough for the court. Does this help? OC |
