thanks OC the church i'm interested in is one of the main ones in Hull so I would imagine their records would now be at the records office in either Hull or beverley as suggested previously. Angie

Churches are only allowed to keep the registers which are in current use, except in very exceptional circumstances (The Archive Act, 1975). However, some churches perform very few marriages and may still be using the register they opened in 1837! OC

Some Churches retain their own Parish Records. I know the church in the village where I live has all its records. Also when I tried to get a marriage cert copy from Lincoln Records for a marriage in Harlaxton they said that the church still had them and I have contacted the church warden and this is correct. I can make an appt to visit the church and they will allow me access to the records. Jennifer

Have you asked at the local library? I was looking for my local records and asked for help at the local library to be told 'we have them in the reference section'

Angela A lot of parish records can be found online with a bit of Googling and searching. Try the LDS website for the IGI records - although not 100% accurate and complete it's always a good starting point. If you go to your local family history library they usually hold microfiche copies of parish records. It will mean sitting there manually trawling through hundreds of names on screen, but worth it if you manage to find something. By Googling Hull Parish Records you will find a website that gives you all the details you need (it's on Familia website) - here's the library address: Local Studies Library Central Library Albion Street Hull HU1 3TF Tel: 01482 210077 They say: 'The parish registers for all Hull churches are held at East Riding Record Office, but a small selection of extracts from local registers is available at the Local Studies Library.' It is the new county record office in Champney Road, Beverley - next to the main library. For details of Hull records, google Genuki, England, Yorkshire, East Riding places - then Hull or the surrounding parishes. Jay
