Hi People ! Just wondered if anyone could give me any hints to locate any trace of my Thompson family (very common name), hence I am coming to a brick wall everywhere I look. I have looked on IGI, ancestry census etc, but there are just too many thompsons ! Also, the ones I have found in 1891, I can't be sure its them as there are discrepencies. I can't get further back than 1901 ! They are living in Byker, Newcastle in 1901. The info is as follows: George Thompson Head 47 Mary Ann Thompson Wife 28 Henry Son 11 George Henry Son 9 Hilda Daughter 7 All were born in Durham/Sunderland apart from Mary Ann who was born in Newcastle. George is a Potter. Cheers Marie x

Yes that could be Henry in 1891, thankyou. I know, I had considered the possibility of a second marriage. I have been told that George Junior had a sister called Florence also, so that kind of links to the family I stumbled across in 1891. I know what you mean, ancestry is a total nightmare tonight. Thanks for your help all the same x

I can see what you mean. Ancestry is very slow for me tonight but I thought I had found George aged 37 in 1891 but his family are completely different! You need to consider that his wife in 1901 might be a second wife - the age difference is large, so in 1891 it might be a different one but surely not with all those different children?! Ancestry is too slow to do any more tonight, sorry. Anne

Do you have George and Mary's marriage cert - or any of the birth certs of the children? Jill

There is a marriage on FreeBMD in Dec 1890 in Newcastle for a George Arthur Thompson and one of the women is a Mary Ann Thompson. Would be a complete nuisance if they had the same surname! Jill

Nothing stands out in 1891 apart from the one above - I've tried searching just for Henry b. 1890ish but no luck so far. Jill
