I have a birth cert for a relative her name is Gertrude Elizabeth Pugh born 1888 in Dingestow Monmouth. Mother is down as Sarah Pugh a domestic servant residence is Penrose.There is no father at all im assuming Gertrude was illegitimate.I have looked in the cencus,s and really struggling.I have found a Gertrude that was a boarder at the age of 2,and Sarah that was servant at another location.Im stuck can anyone come up with anything better Thanks. Well it makes sense, if Gertrude was illegitimate, for Sarah to board her out so that she find work. Could the family looking after Gertrude have been relatives? Or Sarah may have had to go to the workhouse for help, in which case they would have boarded out the baby. Have you found them, together or separate on the 1901 census? |
