My granddad was supposedly the youngest of 7 children. His parents were married in 1913 and he was born in 1925. I have found 2 very possible births, 1 in 1912 (a year before they were married) and 1 in 1913, then I can not find any births until 1920, which is quite a big gap. I have spent hours trawling through birth regs to no avail. Has anybody had any experience of births not being registered about this time? I just want to know if I need my eyes testing! Thank you Vicky

Thanks for the reply, I never thought of that. It's very possible, although the father was born in 1876 so I don't know whether he would have been too old? Thanks Vicky Ps I've got to go now, so I'll check for any messages tomorrow

Victoria Nobody was too old for WW1! By 1916 they were taking anyone who could stand up unaided. They werent too fussy abou anyone proving their age, either. Another possibility is that they emigrated and then came back after the war. OC

My wife had our first when she was 18,our second when she was 21 and our third when she was 35. I am sure a seven year gap is not so unusual.

Vicky, Can you give us the details? Have you tried looking for deaths to find their birth dates? Rose

Thank you all for your replies, I know they didn't move away for the war as the lived at the same address when the married in 1913 as they did when they had my grandad in 1925. I am looking for the surname Lewis born in Leicester with the mother's maiden name Linkins. The name I have found already are: William H Lewis 1912 (this is a possibility as he was born over a year before they married, also possible death in 1913) Ellen E Lewis 1913 (possible death in 1914) George E Lewis 1920 Elsie W Lewis 1923 Alfred E Lewis 1925 Thank you to anyone who can help. Vicky X

Vicky, I don't see a birth for Louisa Linkins or see her on a census. Is it possible she had another maiden name? Rose

Ok found her birth as Frances Louisa in 1881. This means she was 32 when she married. Perhaps the missing children were born before 1913? Rose
