i am looking for my maternal gt grandfather, his name is james white, the only info i have comes from my grandmothers baptism record! it just says father: james white, brasside,co.durham, brickmaker. this was in 1896. my grandmother was the illegitimate daughter of frances ferry and james white, they were never married but had 2 children my grandmother and her brother william b.1893 jane(g/mother) and william were raised by there grandarents george and anne ferry, and can be found on 1901 census with them although there named as parents! i have janes birth cert but no father named! only on baptism record. i have looked on census for 1901 and 1891 but there are so many james white's! i dont know where else to look? hi georgina, thanks for your help! i know about fraces marriage to william shanks, as my mother was in contact with martha! however no one in our family ever mentioned my grandmothers father! that james you found could certainly be a possibility as they have no children which might explain why he had 2 children with some one else! it gives me soemthing to go on even if it turns out to be nothing! thanks again jenny
