I have a marriage certificate for my great-grand parents. Which says my great-grandfather was called William Henry Harrop and his father is also called William. After doing some research i sent for the birth certificate for William Henry Harrop and it came back that his father was called James. I have spent two solid days trying to find a link to the James Harrop and cant see why this cant be my William Henry's birth certificate, but surely the some one would have noticed on the certificate at the time that there was a mistake with the fathers name. And James mistaken for William it's nothing like the same. Where do i go from here, any ideas? Thanks

Hi, I cant find another William Henry Harrop born in Manchester in 1886. They were married in Salford. I thought i had the wrong certificate but cant find anything else. On the marriage certificate it says William Henry is a painter and on the 1901 census i found the William Henry with James for father and it says he is a painter. Rhonda

Rhonda what is interesting about this 1891 census for James & Emma Harrop is that they have a son who is down as William Henry Clay aged 4??? The children 's surname should be Harrop but the enumerator have just put ditto under the Clay name. Name: James Harrop Age: 30 Estimated birth year: abt 1861 Relation: Head Spouse's name: Emma Father's name: Joshua Gender: Male Where born: Manchester, Lancashire, England Civil parish: Manchester Ecclesiastical parish: St Oswald County/Island: Lancashire Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Education: Employment status: View image Registration district: Manchester Sub-registration district: St George ED, institution, or vessel: 36 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Elizabeth Clay 23 Emily Clay 6 Frances Clay 8 Henry Clay 21 James Clay 2 Months Joshua Clay 54 Joshua Birtles Clay 2 William Henry Clay 4 Emma Harrop 30 James Harrop 30 Georgina.

Hi Georgina, I did find this census and it is a mistake the children apart from Henry 21 and Elizabeth are the children of James and Emma. I don't know where to go next with this one. I have sent a email to some one that has Frances Harrop in there tree and i am waiting for a reply. So they make be able to put me right about the William Henry with Jmaes has the father. Rhonda

Georgina, I have my grandfathers birth certificate and yes, Annie Charnley is his mother. I know a lot about Annie, but William Henry was killed in WW1 and Annie married a Percy Miller and my late grandfather wasn't allowed to speak about his father or ask questions. So that is why i don't know anything about him. Rhonda
