Hi I am hoping a new pair of eyes can find my family in 1861, I hae them in all the census except 1861, the person I am looking for is Edmund James LORD b1853, I have never been able to find a record of his birth, and although registration wasnt compulary, all his siblings were registered, so why not him. The nearest I have found has him as Ellen Jane and female, but other family members are similar, I would dearly love to find him, Here he is in 1871 Edmund J Lord Age: 18 Estimated birth year: abt 1853 Relation: Son Mother's name: Margaret Gender: Male Where born: Bacup, Lancashire, England Civil parish: Newchurch Ecclesiastical parish: Christchurch County/Island: Lancashire Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Disability: View image Registration district: Haslingden Sub-registration district: Newchurch ED, institution, or vessel: 3 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 126 Household Members: Name Age Ann Lord 7 Edmund J Lord 18 Margaret Lord 50 Mary A Lord 15 Mary E Lord 20 View Original Record View original image View blank form Save This Record Attach this record to a person in your tree as a source record, or save for later evaluation. Save Source Citation: Class: RG10; Piece: 4133; Folio: 61; Page: 24; GSU roll: 846723. Thanks everyone Ann |

There is a registration for an ELLONOR (sic) Lord, in 1853, mmn Lord, so if Edmund was definitely born in 1851, this isnt him, if you see what I mean! Is it possible that he had a different surname at birth and mother married around 1863? Also, I often find the names Edward and Edmund are confused for each other - they are virtually identical when written in flowing Victorian script. OC |

Thanks OC I have his parents marriage cert from 1838, they were John LORD and Peggy MILLS, I think after John died ( cant find that either) Peggy appears to be known as Margaret ( a bit posher) Edmund James went on to marry Mary Ann Duckworth in 1874, and on the marriage cert his father is John a deceased coalminer Edmund didnt have any daughters he had two sons John Ralph and Edmund Thanks Ann |

Oh dear, there are an awful lot of Margarets marrying men called Lord, but this one caught my eye: Margaret Heyworth to Abraham Lord, 1845, Bacup. But there is also a Margaret Heyworth to Samuel Lord, 1847, Haslingden which would correspond more closely with the birth details above. Can you not find this family on the 1851 census? OC |

Hi Cheryl That is fantastic, that is them as the children are the same, although as usuaul the ages of them are a bit out, interesting on the 1861 Ellen J is the correct age for the Edmund James I am looking for, and there is no sign of Ellen J on the 1871???????? Can you please let me have the address for the 41, 51 and 61, I know that in 1871 they were living at Change, Todmorden Road, Bacup, I wondered if the were there before. At last I have found the family and when I get the cert for the Edmund that OC found maybe I have his birth., Many thanks Ann |

Hi again Looking at the 1861 Margaret E is 11, do you think she is Mary E from the 1851 who is only months old? as we also have a Mary E on the 1851 aged 4, Could Edmund be Ellen and there be an error with with his sex It appears the 1861 is quite wrong, but at least I have found them I have been lookign for them for over a year now, this is a big day for me, Many thanks Ann |
