Is anybody familiar with www*genealogics*org? I read in Your Family Tree magazine that somebody found it particularly useful looking for his Austrian ancestors. So I got all excited and went on to the site, and I can't make head or tail of it. If anybody else uses it, I would love to know how! Duncan |

I use it all the time. That is if you mean this one. http://www(.)genealogics(.)org/index(.)php Remove brackets. It is particularly useful for people with either medieval or Australian ancestry because those are the two main interests of the site owner. I suggest you play with the site by taking a name of some medieval person you have heard of. Off the top of my head I suggest trying John of Gaunt. Put that into the search on the left hand side and only one name comes up so that makes life a bit easier! Click on the name which comes up in red and underlined. That will then give you a biography page for John. It has links (again underlined) for various others in his family. At the top of the page you will see options. Ancestors will give you a tree that you can follow and it should lead you all over the place if you take the various branches. Descendants gives you a list of several generations of people descended from John (or who ever you are interested in). This can be handy if you are browsing and want to see if someone famous has a descendant on your tree. Then relationship is a thingy to work out relationships between various people on the database. If you use the Ancestors option then at the top of the page you will also see the Ahnentafel option. This is sometimes an easier way to see ancestors as you see them in the standard pedigree chart format which means you are less likely to get lost browsing branches of a tree. Genealogics is not complete but it is a huge database and well sourced. The owner is a respected member of online medieval groups and only adds information to this database when it is well documented. This means that you won't find ancestries on there leading back to fantasies and wishful thinking! Have fun Sue |

Thank you both, I will have a play now. I have a funny feeling here, I am after Austria, the magazine mentions Austria, and Sue mentions Australia! Sounds like a printing error. Duncan |
