Apparently our gaol bird doctor was put into Darlinghurst for performing illegal abortion and deported. sil says she vaguely remembers ggran telling her. We do not find his or his wifes death records in NSW after release, although there are records of his children, suppose my kids are proof of that. How can you find out where he was sent? I've checked state and aust. archives, but limited records of that name Abraham Johannes van heekeren and Helena (nee unknown) aka john abraham ...b Holland 1823,darlinghurst gaol 22.06.1874 photo no 1067 page 200 series NRS2138 item(3/14031) reel 5098 arrrived australia 1863 onboard 'matilda' , occupation doctor. thanking you in advance for any help you can give me, regards Yvette |
