Does anyone have access to a 1909 directory or electoral roll – I am looking for Edward Henry Thomas Butt, who may be described as a ‘painter/decorator’ or ‘housepainter’. I know that in 1901 he was living at Penn Street, Hoxton and that by 1918 he was at 71 Ivy Lane, Hoxton. The puzzle is: I have births of my grandfather (1901) in Penn Street, Shoreditch, Herbert Henry Butt – 1903 Shoreditch, Sidney Redvers Butt – 1904 Shoreditch, Arthur Butt – 1914 Shoreditch and Ada Butt – 1915 Shoreditch. The only one I can’t find is the other brother Albert H – should be born 1910 – have his marriage, children’s births and death, but the only possible birth ref I can find for him (typically two years before the mother’s name appears!!) is Sept 1909 Holborn. I am wondering if maybe they moved for his work, but then moved back to Hoxton – anything worth a try here!!!!!! Anyone any ideas? Thanks Looby
