I am stuck with a JONES family in Southampton. ...My ancestor was Charlotte Alice JONES born in 1846, ..parents Emily POWELL and George JONES.....On freebmd there is a marriage in Southampton R.D. where these 2 names are on the same page...... How will I know if it's them?... Usually I search parish records and have back-up information to confirm possible fathers' names but I haven't any information about George and Emily.

Stephanie I think I will get it anyway, it's just that I like to have extra information before I go heading back on a line. If I do that with JONES, I could very quickly go wrong. I can't find Emily in baptism parish registers in her stated birthplace... I have checked at the Record Office. The 2 surnames are too plentiful, so it would be easy to go wrong. George JONES was a labourer in 1846, .. Gwyn

If you look for them both in 1841, you may find the names of the parents of one of them.........that would be sufficient to use as a checking point when ordering the cert. Presumably you have them in 1851? Where and when was each of them born? What was George's occupation? Reg

Oh Margaret Thank you for looking so hard. Aren't they a pain? Much more trouble than all my JONES in Wales even. ...... Now if you could find Charlotte in 1861, that would be wonderful..... The others just may have died,,,,how can you tell which JONES is which, with no ages to go by in the index.?.... but Charlotte was definitely alive. Gwyn

No, I can't find her in 1861. There are a lot of Jones deaths in Southampton which could be yours, but, as you say, without ages, how can you tell? There's even a Charlotte but couldn't be. I wish you luck! Margaret
