Collins and Collins have now ceased trading. Would you know if their files would have been kept or destroyed? And where would they be? As we are trying to find them. regarding a chancery case, which would prove one way or another my Great Grandmother Mary Ann Haskins true family of Haskins. We have been trying to prove it for four years. Any ideas I would be great. Many thanks. Chris.

Unlikely, but not impossible, that the records have been destroyed. Have you looked on A2A? They have loads of solicitors records. The other way is to get onto the Law Society - they have a list of where clients papers went (usually to another solicitor who took over either the practice, or the archives thereof). Do you know when the practice was wound up? Tracking through Trade Directories might help. Finally, you could apply to the Court of Chancery. I am sure they will charge you for this! OC

Many thanks for all you suggestions. I do not know when they stopped trading, but will look at the trade directories as you suggest. Also the other things you said. I do not mind paying to the Chancery Court if they could help. Thank you so much for all your help. Have a good afternoon. Chris.
