Titanic child death - this is so sad.

Miss Helen Loraine Allison, 2, was born June 5, 1909. She was travelling with her father Hudson Allison , her mother Bess and brother Trevor . After the collision Trevor went missing with his nurse Alice Cleaver . When the Allisons realized that Alice Cleaver and baby Trevor were unaccounted for, they resolved that they would not leave the Titanic until after Trevor was found, nor would they be parted from little Loraine, they were last seen standing together, smiling, on the promenade deck. Loraine Allison was the only child in first and second class to die (53 of 76 children in third-class perished). Her body was never found. |

Little Trevor and the nurse survived. He is buried in Chesterville, Ontario close to where I live. Margaret |

Its a shame the parents didnt know Trevor and the nurse would be safe; they hopefully would have got the little daughter to safety then. |

I have been researching this family for eight years now. It is a sad story, however the story that Hudson and Bessie Allison wouldnt leave because they couldn't find Trevor is conjecture. There are eye witness reports from other passengers that say Bessie did not want to get into a boat without her husband. I believe that she knew where the nurse and baby were, but waited with Loraine until she could enter a boat with Hudson, however, that time never came. Hi I have been a life long Titanic enthusiast and have many 3D computer simulations of the ship on my PC, plus hoards of books and DVDs and vids about the Titanic. We will never ever know the sheer terror those passengers went through on that fateful April night in 1912. Even James Camerons blockbuster movie was nowhere near as accurately terryfying as the real event. Most 3rd class passengers, many irish immigrants were locked below in the lower decks, that is why so many children in 3rd class perished as opposed to 1st and 2nd class. Ben |
