I had to take my daughter to Guides last night, they were going to have a go at bell ringing, so I had to take her to a church a couple of miles away from me in a small village called Seale, which is between Farnham and Guildford. . As we got there slightly early, we had a look around the churchyard, and came across a fantastic tomb surrounded by railings. It looked like a whole family was buried in it over the years. On the side were a couple of family crests and coats of arms, still with some paint on them, Bring a total anorak, I have been trying to find out about this family, (surname Hester) where they lived etc. They are nothing to do with my family, I’m just being nosy. I was looking at the Seale Church website this morning, and it is so comprehensive. They have done a complete register of all the burials in Seale Churchyard from 1538 onwards, with just a few missing. Then they have found the families on the 1891 and 1901 census. As well as Seale and Sands, it also covers the surrounding villages Puttenham, and Wanborough. It’s well worth a look if you have any rellies from that side of Guildford. The website is www*atrk01*dsl*pipex*com/Church.htm replace the * with a d o t Sandra |
