The death certificate I ordered last week has just arrived - but has left me confused! My g-g-grandmother was Eliza Jeffcoat, born Winchendon Bucks 1825. The family moved to Islington. She married James Penfold Brewer in 1845 and he died in 1854. There were three children by the marriage (my mother knew nothing about them). Then in 1859 Eliza Brewer married Henry William Bond. They had, to our knowledge, just the one child - my great-grandmother Jessie Jane Eliza Bond in Dec 1859. The Bonds are given as Ponds on the census for two decades - not sure why! In 1891 Eliza was living in Portsea with Jessie who by this time had married Joseph Thomas Purkis. My grandfather appears on the census with them - Cecil Henry Jeffcoat Purkis. So does her granddaughter Elsie Alice Sharp (given as visitor). There was still lots of family in London, and I found a death entry for Kensington (where Eliza had sisters and brothers). 13 Nov 1891 Eliza Bond Female 65 years Widow Henry Bond Master Carpenter Informant W. H. Bond son So now I assume that this Eliza is incorrect - age out by one year (but that isn't necessarily a problem) Husband's name correct, but he wasn't a master carpenter but a coffee house keeper. AND as far as I know - no son! But I still can't find a death entry for her. I can't find her on the 1901 census. Any thoughts appreciated - I would love to find her death.

Thanks Jim - she should be 75 then (born January) but it's worth bearing in mind. I'll have to look at my census records for the rest of the family to see where they are.

Jim - Thanks again! Elsie Alice Sharp is in Clapham with Eliza Bond's sister and brother-in-law Jane and Robert Heath. Clapham is in the Wandsworth registration district, so you might have found her for me! I think I shall have to order the certificate!
