Have you tried looking on the IGI? If you have and they are not on there, you will need to find the marriage in the parish records. Sam x |

thanks for your replies.......i visited st oswalds church, backford, cheshire 3 weeks ago,and the vicar told me that they don`t keep the records from that far back in the church...i presume i will have to go to chester???...if so,how exactly do i research these matters....will i have to do a seperate visit for each request....i will need the marriage of daniel oakes abt 1815.....the marriage of ralph oakes abt 1775(i don`t even know if they were married in cheshire...i do know their 3 children were babtised in st oswalds, backford, cheshire) and any other babtisms of any other children of daniel and elizabeth......regards.....allan |

Hi Allan The parish records will be held at Cheshire Records Office in Chester and will most likely be on microfiche. You will most likely need to book a fiche reader at the Records Office and the staff will show you where the films are and how to use them if you've not used one before. You oonly need to visit once, you know the church so they shouldn't be that diffiult to find. Unfortunately they are not indexed so it is a case of trawling through very old, faded and sometimes unreadable, records. If they weren't married in that particular church it will be more difficult as it could be anywhere! Very often couples married in the Bride's parish, did Mary come from there? Sam x |
