Did he marry? If so, his marriage certificate would hopefully show his father's name and occupation. This might make him easier to find at earlier dates. Gwyn

The 1861 census shows James Hadley, born 1829 in Wednesbury, and his family, living in Bromley, but I am unable to find him prior to 1861. I do not know his parents names, and as the name of James Hadley seems to be quite common, I am do not know where else to go. Any suggestions gratefully received. Kathlyn
