It looks like an original copy, the writing is very scrawly and difficult to read. The when and where died column says ninth July 1881, looks like Shephay S--ve? Whaplode Drove. Its not Shephay Drove as the beginning letter is not like the D in Drove more like an S but its not Street. The informant was his daughter in law Elizabeth Ann Green, who I know was his sons wife. Her address is Dowsdale Bank, Whaplode Drove. I've just trawled through the whole of Whaplode Drove and found the son and daughter in law living there, but not a trace of William. His wife should be there as well but no trace of either of them. Carole xx |

Is the cert a photocopy of the original, or is it a modern, handwritten/typed copy? If so, maybe the clerk forgot to fill that bit in. I have never yet seen a DC without a cause, including some really early ones with bizarre things like Rising of the Lights, or Act of God - they always made a good try at SOMETHING, even if they didnt really know what had caused the death. Who was the informant? What address did he die at? OC |

Yes it's weird there not being a cause of death, I feel cheated! Carole xx |

Carole I have never heard of nothing being in the cause of death box - surely that's the whole idea of the death cert to say what they died of. Mind you I could be wrong, maybe someone else on the boards may have the answer |

Hi Yummy I never thought of that! Yes he had a wife, I presume she was still alive, I think you found her for me in 91 last time, but theres no sign of her in 81 either, I wonder if they got missed altogether? She was Ann/Mary Green born 1818 Deeping St James. Carole xx |

if he died shortly after the census, could it be that he was too ill to answer the door? did he have a wife or children? can you find them? |

Hi Yummy I think you looked last week for me! He was born 1815 Langtoft Lincs. He should be living in Whaplode Drove as he was there in 71 and his daughter in law was the informant on his death cert and she lived there in 81. I wondered if he may be in hospital, but dont know where to look. Carole xx |

My 2xggrandad William Green is missing from the 81 census (well I can't find him). His death is registered in Sept Qtr 1881 Holbeach Lincs. I received the cert today and he died 9th July 1881 making him alive when the census was taken. Another thing is there is nothing in the Cause of Death box, so I dont know what he died of, was this unusual? Carole xx |
