I have found a rellie who is recorded as being a Shoe and Boot maker on the marriage cert of a daughter. She was married in 1875. Would there be a 'professional body' that such a person would belong to, and if so whould he be recorded as such. Kathlyn |

He could have been a 'shoemaker' working from home as many of them did prior to the Factories opening. Not sure of any particular organisation they might have belonged to. Shoe making was a sort of 'cottage industry' for many living in the villages --they'd be classed as 'outworkers' now I think And boot and shoe maker covers a wide field of different occupations in the industry. |
