Tip for finding Places

Go to Google and click on 'maps', in the search bar type in the two place names like this: Newnham to Rothwell The result will be a map showing the two places marked with a line between. It also tells you how far in miles etc. It is then very easy to replace either of the Towns named or add another. I hope this might help some people as it has helped me! dizzy

I don't know about everyone else, but when I am looking for people in places that I don't know at all I like to see how close one town is to another. i.e I know someone was born/baptised in Newnham Northamptonshire and when I am looking for them later on in census the results come up all over the place. See Tip below.

I dont put county etc ... the alternatives come up on the left hand side and you just choose the one you want by clicking on it! I just had another play and realised you can zoom right in! I might have alook for some street names from census returns! My parter Robert is upset cos he can see a grave yard but can't read the stone LOL!!!

When we bought a newer road atlas I grabbed the old one to keep by my computer. I like to look at the maps while doing various names and I have used highlighters on the maps to mark places I am interested in. Some places are too small to be in my road atlas but I find them on the internet and then mark them in the book. I've also found maps handy when looking at various censuses for rarer names. I make a copy of the area for each census and mark in where the family groups were with a spot. It's useful to track movements and numbers of people over time. Sue
