Elizabeth If Edward died in 1888 and Sophia went back to Ireland there is a chance you will find her on the 1901 irish census but you will need to know where in Ireland she may have come from. There are some fragments of the census available on-line however you need to know a location to be able to search it. Do you know anything about where in Ireland she may have originated? Was her maiden name a common irish name or was it a bit unusual as this could help in pinpointing an area. Karen

Has anyone got any tips for researching Ireland? Could I check if a family member trained to be an architect in Ireland/Dublin (which we think was the case)?

On my husband's side we have family who probably returned to Ireland: Edward Buckley Newton born 23rd February 1846 Bankside Southwark died Jun qr 1888 Wandsworth. His wife Sophia was born c 1855 in Ireland (according to census) They had: Reginald Buckley Newton born March qr 1881 and I think also belonging to them (but no proof yet) Nora Margaretta M Newton born Dec qr 1882 Croydon. My mother-in-law remembers a Nora Newton. I can't find the family after Edward's death and wonder if they went to Ireland - if so, how can I trace them? I have no experience of Irish records and how to proceed.
