Margaret Thankyou you are a star !!!! this could be him, just had a quick look on ancestry to see if there was another william powell born 1871 in madeley .can't see one.And yes he was a coal miner so that fits too. Of course i've been looking in shropshire for a marriage for him so this might mean he moved . Thankyou so much this has opened a few more avenues for me to investigate.best wishes christine |

Could he have gone by his second name? There's a William Powell born 1871 Madeley living as a boarder with the Gladwin family in Ault Hucknall, Derbyshire. He's a coal miner. |

My great uncle was a frederick william powell born1871 in madeley shropshire. I have him on the 1891 census with parents Richard and sarah ann. He then disappears into thin air!!! I have checked deaths 1891 -1901 i have checked marriages (have 2 wrong cert's and wandering whether to send for another i've just found ) I have tried every spelling of powell i can think off . I have checked war graves commission web site. I wondered whether he was in the Boer War ,Were men called up for that ? PLEASE any suggestions what i could do next? THANKYOU Chris |
