Laura, There is a file at the National Archives PCOM 2, which details names, convictions etc., from 1770 to 1951. You might find something about Richard Freeman should you vist there. Don't know if you have visited Kew but it's a fantastic place and the guides there are really helpful. Kristeen

Hi, According to the Thesaurus a reformatory is a jail; top security prison; penal complex; secure unit;detention centre, young offenders institution. If you google 'North Lancs Reformatory for Boys' you will see that some migrated (got sent?) to Canada. Kristeen Also found this 'A School for the Training and Education of Lads Convicted of Crime' not sure where you would find his conviction records. Kristeen

one of my relations i have found in the 1901 census. aged 14 he is down as 'inmate' in relation to head of household. he has an occupation as a tailor and there are no other people down as living with him. he is also single. anyone help? his name is richard freeman born bolton le moors 1887
