Deceased or not.

On the marriage certs I have if the father of the bride or groom is deceased then it is written under the father's name but is this always the case please. Many thanks Linda

Thanks alot Kath...I have found the mother on the census but not the father so he probably was deceased. Linda

'Deceased' is not always put on the certificate. It depends what the person asking the question actually asked. If they just said 'What is your father's name?' then the answer might just have been 'Joe Bloggs' and they might have forgotten to say 'He's deceased'. Kath. x

to be the devil's advocate ..................... he could of course not have existed at all!! Some illegitimate children put name of father plus deceased (and sometimes omitted the deceased!) on their marriage certificates ........ presumably 'cos they didn't want people to know they were illegitimate.

Researching:
My brother, photo taken in September 1991 just a couple of weeks before he died. ............................................................ To help us and to get better results, please post as much detail as you can, especially name, date(s) and place. Also say what you already know.

Lol Sylvia...I have one or two 'fantasy' fathers....very frustrating!! In this instance I know the father existed I have his marriage from the parish records...thank goodness. Thanks, Linda
