The 1861 Census I am looking at is: Source Citation: Class: RG9; Piece: 117; Folio: 9; Page: 11; GSU roll: 542576. In 41, 51 & 61 Census the Father George was born in St Asaph North Wales. In 51 Census 3 of his daughters were born in Caernarfon and in 61 one daughter has gone and the other 2 are born in “Llangwestner”. I can’t find anywhere like that near Caernarfon and I am not sure it has been transcribed correctly (it has one of those annoying lines through it!). IGI doesn’t seem to have any records for St Asaph so I can’t find George’s birth (George Nathan Wright c 1805). I thought I was doing so well getting back this far with a common name like Wright but now I am stuck! Can anyone help either by having a look at the census to see what Llangwestner might be or any ideas where I can find BMD’s pre 1837 for that part of Wales. Thanx in advance! |

Hi Dizzy, I am in North Wales, on Anglesey, about 40 miles west of Llanelwy, ie. St Asaph and 15 miles North of Caernarfon, where I worked for 22 years. Llangwestner is unknown to me but I will have a think and a look in some old books I have; and post anything I find. PS. not been into photo site yet, received your mail contact earlier, thankyou. PPS. I am new into this and am enjoying every minute. It is something that I have been 'going' to do for years. O'r diwedd! |
