Having purchased and transferred my tree to it, I have spent 4 days adding to it. Stupidly, I didn't back it up. Today, I can't get it open...it cannot find my files. (nor can I) so, silly me, I have wasted 4 days. Is it best to uninstall and start again? Once backed up, if it happens again, is it easy to put the backed up file back on the programme.. Does that make any sense? Tina x |

My version of FTM automatically backs up the files so I would be surprised if your data is lost. Start by going into Windows Explorer to check if the files are there. 1. Launch Windows Explorer 2. Click on Search button 3. Click on documents on menu (on the left of your screen) 4. Click on All Files and Folders 4. Enter *.ftw in the top search box 5. Click on Search The search may take some time but should display the files. This will show you if the files are there and where they are. You then have to work out why FTM is not finding them. |

Thank you for you reply Charles, I have done as you explained, sadly it seems to have disappeared. Never mind, eh, best foot forward - have just purchased a stick thingy for back-ups. Tina |

By Default FTM backs up the file when you close the program, again by default it stores your file in it's own directory. Go into My Computer, local disk (usually C) , Program Files, FTM Folder, if it's not there search files and folders and look for .FBC and .FBK files as well as .FTW. The file will not have disapeared all by itself. Carol www*genealogyprinters*com |
